Hawthorne Park District Approves Tax Levy and consolidation of Clyde Park District and Hawthorne Park District.

Who was there?
The Hawthorne Park District Board met on Thursday, December 19th at the Hawthorne Park District Community Building located at 5202 W. 29th Place, Cicero, IL at 8:00pm. This was their last meeting of the year and as Hawthorne Park District because they will be merging with Clyde Park District beginning January 1, 2020.
The meeting lasted forty minutes, all eight commissioners were in attendance and a report was given by Marianne Birko, Executive Director of West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA) about their 2018 Report and partnership with Hawthorne Park District. WSSRA provide year round recreational services for persons with disabilities.
What Happened?
During the meeting, the Hawthorne Park District board of commissioners held a public hearing on the 2019 tax levy of $680,000 and, minutes later, voted to approve the 2019 tax levy. The board continues to increase their tax levy from 2017.
2017 Tax Levy: $632,500
2018 Tax Levy: $633,715
2019 Tax Levy: $680,000

The board also approved Ordinance No. 2019-2020-7 which consolidates Clyde Park District and Hawthorne Park District into a single park district. Clyde Park District will be responsible for Hawthorne Park District’s maintenance, operation, administration of parks and parks facilities and will be governed by five members.
Why are they consolidating?
According to Dennis Raleigh, Executive Director of Hawthorne Park District, Cicero voters approved an advisory referendum consolidating to one single park district in November 2016, 12,697 voters were in favor and 4,557 were opposed.
