Local Cicero Agencies Responses to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

There have been no confirmed COVID-19 cases in Cicero. However, people are still being advised to take necessary precautions including practicing good hygiene, staying at home if possible especially if sick and avoiding large crowds.
We are compiling information on how local agencies are responding to the coronavirus pandemic. We will be updating this as more information becomes available. Please feel free to reach out via social media or at info@ciceroindependiente.com with any questions, comments, or tips.
Town of Cicero
Update as of 3/14/20: The Town of Cicero has cancelled all scheduled Senior Trips and events for the month of March. However, the Senior Center and Town of Cicero administration center will remain open for the time being.
The Health Department is checking on all health facilities and local care centers and monitoring issues as they arise.
3/12/20: We are waiting for a response about precautions they are taking and services they will be offering. Officials have not yet made any announcements on social media.
District 201
Update as of 3/14/20: As a result of the state mandate by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, District 201 along with public schools across the state will be closed from Monday, March 16 - Monday, March 30.
March 16: Students will be allowed to enter their school building from 9am - 1pm only to retrieve materials they did not bring home on Friday. IT staff will also be available to help students with any technology issues before E-learning begins.
March 17 - 26: E-learning days
March 30 - April 3: Regularly scheduled spring break
April 6: School will resume, unless further closures are ordered.
In addition, all athletics, activities, and events are cancelled.
Breakfast and Lunch grab and go meals will be provided to all students from 7am - 9am and 11am - 12:30pm from Tuesday, March 17 - Friday, March 27.

3/12/20: The district has moved to limit community events as much as possible. Several events have been cancelled including:

District 99
Update as of 3/14/20: As a result of the state mandate by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, District 99 along with public schools across the state will be closed from Monday, March 16 - Monday, March 30.
March 16: Regularly scheduled day off due to Teacher Institute Day
March 17 - 26: E-learning days
March 30 - April 3: Regularly scheduled spring break
April 6: School will resume, unless further closures are ordered.
In addition, all athletics, activities, and events are cancelled. Breakfast and Lunch will be available to all students, but time and location is still being determined.

3/12/20: The District announced that building staff will be deep cleaning all classrooms and facilities. They recommend that students engage in preventative measures such as frequent hand washing, avoiding touching of the face and staying home if sick.
Extracurricular activities, including after-school clubs and athletic events, will continue as planned, but will NOT be open to parents and the public

Cicero Public Library
The library will remain open for now. Staff have been disinfecting high use areas. Adult programs have not been canceled. People who registered for the Drawing Workshop scheduled for March 23 will be notified via phone or email in the event of cancellation.
Children’s programming for the month of March has been cancelled. Youth and children can still come to the library during the scheduled class times for crafts, art activities and individual drawing.

Cicero Community Center
There have been no cancelation of events or scheduled programming.
Cicero Health Clinic at the Community Center
The clinic does not currently have capacity to test for coronavirus. People who call the clinic with flu-like symptoms or with questions about the coronavirus will be referred to the Illinois Department of Public Health (800-889-3931).
Cicero Senior Center
Update as of 3/14/20: All Senior Citizen activities have been canceled.
3/12/20: We are waiting for a response about precautions they are taking and services they will be offering.
Morton College
Update as of 3/14/20: All face-to-face classes are cancelled from March 23 - March 29.The college’s library will remain open from 9am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday to provide students with computers and internet access.
Support services such as advising, counseling, and disability services will be available online.
All college-sponsored events are cancelled until at least March 30th. The Fitness Center will also be closed.
