Elections
First on the agenda for this meeting was the authorization to move the primary election for town trustees, originally scheduled for February 28, 2023, to the consolidated election on April 4. This is possible, and authorized by the office of the Cook County Clerk, because candidates for these offices are running uncontested.
If you would like to learn more about why candidates are uncontested and the difficulties of running for office in Cicero we encourage you to read “Why Is It So Hard To Run For Office In Cicero?”
The town also claims that holding all these elections together would benefit Cicero residents by not having to spend on hosting multiple elections.
Development
On April 19, 2022 the town agreed to enter into a purchase and sale agreement with Vequity, LLC for the sale of a property located on Cicero Avenue and 33rd Place.
The parties agreed to change this agreement to extend the inspection period until February 28 of this year. This is now the third amendment to this agreement and the second extension provided for the inspection period.
No other information was given about why this was necessary, but certain plans for this plot of land were already approved by the board on September 13, 2022. You can read more about that agreement here.
The board entered an agreement with Specialty Consulting for environmental consulting services to work on the Inclusion Park on Laramie Avenue and 19th St.The board also approved an agreement with Terra Engineering to help design the playground that is intended to provide a space for all children, especially those with special needs, to safely play together.
